Magical Moments

Do you ever have one of those moments that fills you with love and beauty for our world? I know with the current state of things this can be a hard thing to think about, but there are still moments of just pure beauty that leave an imprint on your heart and soul. Those moments of light are the fire that keeps us going when we are facing the darkness in our world. These are the ones we need to take a moment to focus on and recall when life feels overwhelming and everything just feels heavy.

I just had one of those moments resurface in my mind that inspired this article. It was one of those magical days where things just flow together and it creates a core memory that is filled with such love and peace. I took my kids on a last summer adventure day before school started, and we kayaked to an uninhabited island. Me in the tandem with my young daughter in front. My son, in his own kayak beside. The water was glistening and often smooth as we glided through; at times stopping at moments to watch jellyfish float by. We made it to the island and unpacked our picnic lunch and just embraced the moment together on the sandy beach. Then as we swam in the ocean a group of seals started to come in and swim with us. Just me, two kids, an uninhabited island with no one around, and these seals swimming close by as the sun warmed our souls further. And as we dried off on shore, my little one warmed rocks in the sun to give us hot stone massages while my son found every shell and type of ocean life he could. On the way back I watched the drips of the water fall from my paddle each time it was lifted, while my daughter sang silly songs, and found ways to make me laugh. We spent hours there that day just enjoying every single moment of our surroundings and each other’s company. There was so much peace, love, and calm in the whole day and it still leaves me with an internal glow just thinking back on it right now.

On our way to the small island.

Another one of my favourite moments was waiting to pick someone up at the ferry terminal. I was so lost in all of the things I had to get done and the stress of what needed to be completed when a little girl I didn’t know slipped her hand into mine. She had been dancing around the terminal so I helped her to twirl around and she smiled and danced back to her family. All the overwhelming feels and thoughts of life vanished and she brought me back to reality and that present moment of beauty. It was a gorgeous moment of innocence and joy.

Strangers can also bring us these lightened moments, like when a gentleman came into a store I was shopping in and was in a deep search for anything angel related. He told us that ever since his wife died he worked for hospice as a volunteer and would always take a moment to pop into stores looking for angel things to remind him of his darling wife. There were angels on the counter and I bought him one in honour of his wife and bought one for myself to always remember him and that moment. He was so touched by my gesture, but I was dealing with my husband leaving me, and I needed this love story at that moment and the hope for my future ahead. His pure love for her radiated in how he talked about her and how he was dedicating the remainder of his years to help others losing loved ones through the Hospice Society.

After all these years, I still have the angel.

Other magical moments can be alone, like when I was watching the sunset on a cliff and as the sky turned a variety of pinks and purple hues, orcas surfaced and swam along during the setting sun. Sunrises, sunsets, and moments in nature often help me find magical moments and reset me from difficult thoughts.

Sunsets create so many magical moments

Another favourite was on a getaway with my boyfriend. At a private cabin, we relaxed in the hot tub overlooking the ocean. Absolute peace in the calm of our surroundings, we sat there hand in hand looking up at the night sky for signs of a meteor shower that started. This was the same night he talked about getting me a ring to continue our life together. The night was filled with such deep love for each other, laughter as we struggled to catch the shooting stars, and connection for how we feel about each other.

There are beautiful moments that exist in this world if we just stop to accept them for what they are at that time. These moments are gifts that show us the purity in connection and the peace in a moment. Magical moments like these are what our soul needs to hang onto when the world feels like chaos and they can help us feel present again and release the stress we’re holding onto. Take a moment to think about what comes up when you think about a magical moment for you and hold onto the feelings that surface with it. No matter what you are facing, it will help you ground yourself in the present moment and give you the light to keep moving forward again.
